Privacy Policy

How we handle your personal and credit information.

TEMPLATE — REVIEW BEFORE PUBLISHING

This policy must be reviewed by your compliance adviser

The text below is a starting structure only. A credit assistance provider handles both personal information and credit information, which are governed by the Privacy Act 1988 and Part IIIA of that Act, together with the Privacy (Credit Reporting) Code.

Have this reviewed and completed by your licensee, aggregator or a compliance adviser before the site goes live, and replace the placeholder licence details throughout the site with your own.

SECTIONS TO COMPLETE

What this policy needs to cover

What information we collect

Identity and contact details, financial information including income, assets, liabilities and expenses, employment details, and credit information such as credit reports and repayment history where relevant to assessing a credit application.

Complete this section with the specific categories your practice actually collects.

How we collect it

Directly from you, through forms on this website, and from third parties including lenders, credit reporting bodies, your accountant or adviser where you have authorised it, and referral partners.

List the third-party sources your practice actually uses.

Why we collect it and who we disclose it to

To assess your circumstances, prepare and submit credit applications, and manage the relationship afterwards. Disclosure typically includes lenders, lenders mortgage insurers, credit reporting bodies, aggregators and service providers.

Set out your actual disclosure recipients, including any overseas disclosure, which must be identified.

How we store and protect it

Describe the physical and electronic security measures in place, how long information is retained, and how it is destroyed or de-identified when no longer required.

Retention obligations for credit records are specific — confirm the applicable periods with your compliance adviser.

Access, correction and complaints

You have the right to request access to the personal and credit information held about you and to ask for corrections where it is inaccurate.

This section must include your contact details for privacy enquiries, your internal complaints process and timeframes, and referral rights to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
